Annual Report - Park and Recreation Commission
City Code section 2-46-03 (e) Reports: specifies that the Park and Recreation
Commission shall make an annual written report to the City Council. At the
Commission's March meeting, members discussed major accomplishments of 2004
and set some clear goals for 2005. The Commission would welcome the
opportunity to discuss these items with the City Council at an upcoming joint
meeting,
2004 ACCOMPLISHMENTS
· Completion of City Center Park
· Installation of (3) new playgrounds
· Completion of the "Holiday Inn Express" Trail
· Completion of the "Highway 41" Trail Connector
· Sustained growth in Recreation Programming
· Implementation of a tree inventory program
· Implementation of a trail inventory program (a component of pavement
management)
· Assisted with the launch of the new Farmers Market
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR 2005 INCLUDE:
· Continue to work towards the opening of an off-leash dog area
· Focus on park and trail amenities slated for the 2005 MUSA area
· Complete the playground restoration project initiated in 2004
· Establish partnership with ISD 112 for the new school site
· Entertain a discussion concerning the future of golf in Chanhassen
· Monitor Met Council efforts to enhance open space opportunities in Carver
County
· Evaluate the current supply of athletic fields within the City
