1 SUBJ: Information Update, Trunk Highway 5 Improvements , MnDOT
File No. PW067B
IActivity on the local improvements for Trunk Highway 5 has been
accelerating and staff has had several meetings with MnDOT over
the past months in reviewing the concept plans. Obviously, our
I
Trunk Highway 101 realignment activity has also kept us in close
contact with the Highway 5 improvements.
I As indicated in the attached notice to abutting property owners
on Highway 5 , MnDOT will be holding an open house on October 20
and an informational meeting on October 27 for interested members
I of the public to, in detail, review the project . I therefore
thought it would be appropriate to have MnDOT staff update the
Council on the project prior to the public meetings so that the
Council will be fully aware of the construction activities
1 planned and schedule for the project . This is an informational
presentation and therefore no Council action will be necessary.
I Concerning the October 27th informational meeting , MnDOT has
requested that the City provide a moderator to control the
meeting. The Mayor served in this roll for Eden Prairie.

File No. PW067B
Dear Property Owner: '
As I am sure you are aware, the State of Minnesota is continuing with
preliminary design activities on the above-referenced project. As a part of
those activities, the state has scheduled two public meetings to provide an
opportunity for public input in the decision-making process. Both of the
meetings are scheduled to be held at the City of Chanhassen City Hall located at
690 Coulter Drive (lower level) .
The first meeting scheduled for Thursday, October 20, 1988 will be an
informational type open house. Th Minnesota Department of Transportation will
have staff available between the :ours of 4:00 ;.m. and 8:00 p.m. to discuss
details and answer any questions that interested parties may have.
The second meeting scheduled for Thursday, October 27, 1988 will be a more
formal type meeting with a moderator, a formal pre_entation of the project and a
period of discussion. This meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. All affected pro-
perty owners are invited to attend and participate in these meetings.
The improvement of Highway No. 5 is a State project, but the City has been asked
to notify affected property owners about these meetings. Alhile we can answer
some questions about the projects, it would be preferable if you could attend
one or both of these meetings to resolve specific questions you may have. The
enclosed brochure briefly describes the Trunk Highway 5 project and schedule. '
Sincerely,
CITY OF CHANHASSEN I
