STAFF PRESENT:

PLANNING COMMISSION MEMBERS PRESENT:

INTRODUCTION OF STEVE FERRARO, ENGINEERING TECH/CONSTRUCTION
MANAGER:
Paul Oehme introduced the City’s new Engineering Tech/Construction Manager.
Steve will be inspecting the city’s construction projects.
INTERVIEW APPLICANTS FOR THE PLANNING COMMISSION:
The City Council
interviewed Jodi Keuseman for a vacancy on the Planning Commission.
JOINT MEETING WITH THE PLANNING COMMISSION:
The Planning Commission
reviewed their goals for 2014. The council asked the commission how they felt they were doing.
The commission noted that on some development applications there are issues outside of the
control of the development or developer, e.g. traffic. The Council advised the commission to
listen to their comments and remind residents that these issues are outside of their purview, but
that their concerns will be forwarded to the appropriate staff and the City Council. The
commission noted that their membership has diverse backgrounds, which makes them a well-
balanced commission.
2030 COMPREHENSIVE PLAN UPDATE:
Kate Aanenson presented the status of
Chanhassen’s available land inventory. Except for housing, there is an ample supply of land
available for development. Staff reviewed the city’s policy regarding leapfrog development or
premature development where no municipal services are available. It was noted there will be
additional pressure for development and municipal services due to the construction of the new
river crossing bridge at TH 101, and upgrades to County Road 61 and Lyman Boulevard. Staff
underscored that this data will be used as the City begins its next update of the Comprehensive
Plan, which needs to be completed by 2018.
CSAH 61 CORRIDOR STUDY:
Kate Aanenson and Paul Oehme presented the findings of the
CSAH 61 Corridor Study to date and the information that will be presented at the open house.

Approximately 200 acres of buildable land is available along the corridor. Sewer and water is
being studied to determine if it is economically feasible to service this area in the future.
Staff noted that there will be an open house on this topic on May 22 from 4-6 pm at the
Chanhassen Library. The purpose of the open house is to share the findings of the study thus far,
and to listen to residents’ concerns and ideas. Staff will report back to the Council with the
comments received at the open house.
Mayor Furlong adjourned the work session at 7:00 p.m.
