MEMORANDUM
TO:
Mayor
City Council
Scott A. Botcher, City Manager~~
FROM:
DATE:

SUBJ:
May 22, 2000 Agenda Items
Just a few comments on issues before you this evening.
Item 1 h, Approve Contract for Law Enforcement Services, Truck Inspections
and Overweight Enforcement Services: While the Council budgeted for these
services and these services were provided by the County during weight restriction
season, Sgt. Potts came to me last week and said that the County had requested of
him an executed contract as before you this evening. Therefore, I am asking your
approval of the contract for the truck inspections and overweight enforcement
services as indicated in the contract provided by the County.
Item Ik, Approval of 800 mhz Radio Analysis: Secondly, the issue of the 800
megàhertz radio system is before you this evening as well. It has frankly been
very difficult to find vendors who provide these services for what is admittedly a
small job. At this time I have one proposal in the amount of $5,750. If you recall
from our discussion with the Fire Chief, I believe the consensus of the Council,
supported by myself and the staff, is that it is money well spent to ensure that the
800 megàhertz radio system actually works for the City of Chanhassen within our
buildings and our topography.
That being said, I have been trying to find multiple parties that do this work. I
have a call in to one other provider who may provide this service. I have asked
him to get me a proposal by Monday and ifhe does, I will bring that to the work
session. Frankly, I have no problem with the one proposal that we have from PSC
Alliance; however, I also have a small amount offarniliarity with the other party
and if they come in with a competitive quote, I may recommend them to do this
work. I believe we will probably be able to answer any questions you have during
the work session and then authorize the execution of a contract with one of these
firms during the regular meeting. There are a few items in the PSC contract that I
will want to change prior to acceptance if this is the contract we accept. The Fire
Chief will be present as he will be giving his monthly update and so will be
available for questions during the regular meeting if you have them.
