The Council discussed an option of trying to I regulate the location and setback to adjacent properties and when viewed from public right-of-ways . IANALYSIS Staff reviewed other communities' ordinances for regulations I regarding the setback or location of directional signs . None of the ordinances reviewed indicated a setback or location require- ment. Typically, most directional signs are located at intersec- tions of the driveway and the public street. It would be I difficult to establish a specific setback because the setback requirement may defeat the purpose of providing a directional sign at the intersection. IAs an alternative, staff would recommend addition of a general statement to the ordinance that would read as follows: I "The placement of directional signs on the property shall be so located such that the sign does not adversely affect adjacent residential properties or the general appearance of the site from Ipublic right-of-ways. " The ordinance now provides for a maximum height of five feet. 1 This will also help to minimize the intrusion of the 12 square foot directional sign on the property. Mr. Don Ashworth r July 7 , 1988 Page 2 , RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that the City Council adopt the ordinance as presented in Attachment #1 approving an amendment to Section 20-1255 (2 )c for second and final reading and Section 20-1255 ( 2)a for both first and second readings .
