1g3. Meeting Date, Board of Review ,v,R Cote . I d/ ,I, I ,\ l\ Office of County Assessor 4 ,S‘. CARVER COUNTY COURTHOUSE ORLIN H. SCHAFER !`V 600 EAST 4TH STREET 448-3435 Ext. 230 N E S CHASKA,MINNESOTA 55318-2189 I COUNTY OF CAI VFI 1 February 7 , 1989 To: City and Township Clerks I From: Orlin H. Schafer, County Assessor (a • Subject: Board of Review Schedule I The following dates and times are the tentative schedule for the 1989 Boards of Review in your respective districts. If you have a problem with the date or time please call me at the office and I we' ll try to arrange something else. I would personally like to have more of these meetings scheduled during the day. I Remind your citizens if they cannot make a meeting, they can appeal their values by letter, sent to the County Assessor, who will then present those appeals at the local board. I If I have not heard anything different from you by February 15, I will then assume the schedule was satisfactory, and will proceed to send out your notices. The official notices must be mailed and I posted at least 10 days prior to the meeting, so we can' t have any last minute changes. IThanks a lot. IManager's Comment: As can be seen from the attached sheet, the Board of Equalization meeting for Chanhassen has tentatively been set by the Assessor for I May 16, 1989. Typically, a secondary meeting is necessary. If only a few questions are presented on May 16th, the second special meeting probably would not be required, i.e. the item could be placed onto the regular agenda of May 22, 1989. If a special meeting were needed, May 30th would be suggested by the I Assessor. Relations between the Assessor and the City have been strained in the past. The last two years have been better, but still not ideal. To insure that the Council recognizes the statutory duties of the Assessor's office and to have I a more clear understanding as to the power/responsibilities of the City Council, I would like to add to one of our upcoming special meeting dates a work session with the Assessor's office. The session could be relatively short (i to 1 hour) , with the Assessor generally describing objectives which were set as I part of the 1988/89 assessment process as well as the desired goals of the Council for 1989/90. I have had an opportunity to meet with the new Assessor, Orlin Schafer. I believe the City Council will be as impressed with Orlin as I I was and would find that type of special meeting extremely beneficial before we went into the spring public hearing.
