ISouthshore Senior Center - 1988
Transportation Program - provides rides for seniors as follows:
I . to center for lunch/programs
. to Sojourn Adult Day Care Program
I . to medical appointments
. to local grocery store
. to major shopping centers
Ithis year the program provided 5,075 one-way trips to 365 duplicated
seniors.
INutrition Program - noon meal for people age 60 and older - cost on a
1 donation basis. Center served 6,491 meals to average of 43 participants
the 3 days the center is open.
I Volunteer Involvement - 63 senior citizens corrributed 4,573
volunteer hours for Southshore Center. Volunteers served as van drivers,
center receptionists, dining volunteers; planned center programs, helped
Iwith elementary school vision/hearing screening, participated in
community events such as Apple Days, Health Information Fair, craft
iboutique, etc.
Health Services - included Over 50 and Fit exercise program, health
Iscreenings (blood pressure, hearing, vision and cholesterol), lectures on
_ health problems especially related to the aged, hiking group. 200 events
I - were held in 1988.
Social/Recreational Programs - included cards, bingo, trips, birthday
Icelebrations, musical entertainment, craft groups and films. 116 events
were held in 1988.
IEducational Programs - included 55 Alive Driving Course, computer
classes, reading discussion groups, programs on religion, travel, the arts,
Ietc. 99 events were held in 1988. °`
IManager' s Comment: Mrs. Betty Bragg wanted the Council to receive
this information. She will verbally review this Monday evening.
