REOUESTED ACTION
Approve the contract and work orders with Black and Veatch for the Water
Treatment Study (not-to-exceed amount of$274,500) and study and design ofthe
Minnewashta Loop Watennain (not-to-exceed amount of$89,500).
DISCUSSION
The City ofChanhassen Water Treatment Project Advisory Committee has
recommended the City contract with Black and Veatch for the study of water
treatment in the City. Since the Minnewashta Loop watennain will require
modeling and Black and Veatch will be doing modeling as part of the treatment
study, it is reasonable that they be the consultant to do the Minnewashta Loop.
The Minnewashta Loop is necessary to provide redundant water supply to the
west side of Lake Minnewashta. The redundant supply will provide a reassurance
that the City will be able to supply water to the approximately 1,100 homes
located in this area in the case of a watennain break. In addition, the loop will
provide the added benefits of improved water quality in this area and serve the
new Arboretum expansion.
The contract is a generic contract for any work done by Black and Veatch for the
City ofChanhassen. The work order is for the study of water treatment. Payment
shall be on a cost-plus basis, with the City only paying for the actual work
completed.
