A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING MAY 15, 2005 AS
CHANHASSEN AMERICAN LEGION POST 580 DAY
WHEREAS, the American Legion Post 580 is a proud member of the city of Chanhassen
and the local community, providing an environment for veterans of the United States
armed forces to assemble since 1952, and
WHEREAS, the Chanhassen American Legion, with a current membership of 452
veterans and 170 auxiliary members, has been a longstanding member of the Chanhassen
community, first in downtown Chanhassen, then in it's we 'I-remembered location on the
corner of Highways 5 and 10 1, and now in its new and updated facility with ample
meeting space and a relaxing outdoor patio along Highway 5, and
WHEREAS, the members of the Chanhassen American Legion have generously donated
their time and talent in service to others by supporting outstanding causes in the city of
Chanhassen and throughout the Twin Cities, and
WHEREAS, their charitable contributions over the years has reached hundreds of
thousands of dollars, and has supported charitable causes such as the Chanhassen Library,
School Safety Patrols, Boy and Girl Scouts, Ducks Unlimited, the Epilepsy Foundation,
Legion Baseball, Special Olympics, Campfire USA, the Chanhassen Fire Department, the
City of Chanhassen, and many more too numerous to mention, and
WHEREAS, the Chanhassen American Legion Post 580 will be hosting the Third District
Annual Convention from May 13 through May 15, 2005 which will bring hundreds of
Legionnaires to the City of Chanhassen and will culminate with a parade through
downtown Chanhassen, and
WHEREAS, the honor of hosting this event is well deserved and should be supported by
the entire community;
NOW THEREFORE, it is resolved by the City Council of the City of Chanhassen,
Minnesota that Sunday, May 15,2005 shall be proclaimed as Chanhassen American
Legion Post 580 Day in the City of Chanhassen and, further, that American Legion
members from throughout the State of Minnesota are welcomed to the City of
Chanhassen during their Third District Annual Convention.
Passed and adopted by the Chanhassen City Council this 9th day of May, 2005.
