DataSery Off-Premise Sign
' February 8 , 1988
Page 2
APPLICABLE REGULATIONS
Section 3-9-3-1-2b of the Zoning Ordinance permits an off premise
' directional sign which shall be limited to situations where access
is confusing and traffic safety could be jeopardized or traffic
could be inappropriately routed through residential streets . The
size of the sign shall be approved by the City Council and shall
contain no advertising (Attachment #1 ) .
' ANALYSIS
The applicant is proposing one off-premise directional sign to be
located on the southeast corner of the Lake Drive East/Dakota
' Avenue intersection (Attachment #2 ) . The DataSery site is
located south of Highway 5 and east of McDonald' s and is serviced
by Lake Drive East from the west. There is no direct access from
' Hwy. 5 to the site.
The location of the DataSery site makes it necessary for off-
premise directional sign. An off-premise directional sign is
' needed to direct traffic where to enter the site and to prevent
traffic from entering the Chanhassen Estates subdivision.
The applicant is proposing that the off-premise directional sign
be 12 square feet in size. The off-premise directional sign will
contain the name, DataServ, the DataSery logo, a directional
' arrow and an address (Attachment #3 ) . The off-premise direc-
tional
sign does not contain any advertising. Staff feels that
12 square feet is an appropriate size for an off-premise direc-
tional
sign. The off-premise directional sign needs to be seen
at a farther distance for traffic entering or trying to locate
the site. The proposed location of the off-premise directional
sign will not restrict the site distance of traffic entering or
' leaving the site.
RECOMMENDATION
Planning staff recommends the City Council adopt the following
motion:
' "The City Council approves the 12 square foot size for the off-
premise directional sign located as shown in Attachment #2 . "
