Fire Department Overview:
Station 2
6400 Minnewashta Pkwy.

Staffing is at 48 total firefighters with four firefighters on leave and four newly hired firefighters
not yet able to respond to calls. The four new hires started on July 7th and have an anticipated
academy start date in September.
Year to date calls for service are at 341 as of the end of June compared to 278 for the same
period in 2013. June was extremely busy month with 72 total calls for service, well above the
average for the year of 54.
Staff Time (not call related): Staff time for community events, fire education, duty crew standby,
and department meetings is at 1,148 hours for YTD compared to 1,528 hours for the same period
in 2013.
Training: Training hours are at 2,209 for the year compared to 2,898 in 2013. Training in June
and July included vehicle extrication training, an officer meeting, and structural firefighting scene
set up involving actually roll in training using a cul -de -sac on Cimarron Circle. Neighbors were
advised well in advance and en j oyed watching the fire trucks approach the scene and role play an
actual structure fire.
Safety: Safety is always important to the fire department and the continued health and wellness of
members through risk reduction endeavors such as health surveillances, ongoing education, and
safety officer program. Annual mandatory health surveillance is scheduled for August.
Compliance: Annual ladder, pump, SCBA, PPE, and hose testing is scheduled throughout the
year. All firefighting turn out gear was professionally cleaned, inspected, and repaired by the end
of June. Annual cleaning and inspection is mandatory by NFPA standard and a condition of the
Joint Powers Agreement utilized to purchase the gear.
Fire Marshal:
Fire Prevention: Upcoming events include: Safety Camp, National Night Out, and preliminary
planning for fire prevention week activities.
Fire Investigations: Nothing to report.
Fire Inspections: Current projects at various stages of completion include: K. Hovnanian Town
Homes, John Arthur Town Homes, Lake Riley Town Homes, Powers Point office /warehouse,
Bluff Creek Senior Cottages, Bernard Group remodel, Autobahn Motorplex, and numerous
smaller remodel projects. The re- inspection of restaurants are in the process with hotels and
apartments slated for the end of July.
