Approval requires a simple majority vote of the City Council. Background: Fire apparatus carry various sizes of hose in varying lengths to support fire suppression activities. This request involves replacing all large diameter hose (LDH) on Chanhassen fire apparatus. LDH hose is 5 inch in diameter and is primarily used to connect fire apparatus to a fire hydrant. NFPA Standard 1962, 2013 Edition guidelines direct the footage and type of hose required on fire suppression apparatus. NFPA also notes useful life of 10 years for fire hose. Compliance testing is mandatory and conducted annually within NFPA guidelines by a hose testing vendor. In 2013, all LDH hose was tested and the vendor outlined several worn lengths, pin holes, and bubbles. In service years range from 12 to 24 years. Based on these findings a CIP project request was made to replace all LDH hose. In 2014, two vendors were contacted and provided bids for 4,375 feet of LDH hose. Both suppliers offer free shipping and 10 year warranties. The project was approved for $35,000 with the lowest bid received totaling $24,600. Recommendation: The fire department recommends purchasing from the lowest bid, Clarey's Safety Equipment for $24,600.
