Two probationary firefighters started July 13" and are not yet able to respond to calls. One firefighter is on personal leave and one firefighter is on medical leave. Additionally, we are piloting a Cadet program for a high School senior that will train with the recruit class this year. If this program is successful, we should be able to hire this person as a probationary firefighter during next year's hiring process. Fire Department Response: In June, the Chanhassen fire department responded to 59 calls for service. Currently, calls for service are up 8.5% compared to last year at this time with a projected call load of 674 for the year. • No significant fires occurred in June • EMS responses totaled 27 with 3 motor vehicle accidents with minor injuries Monthly Training: Training that occurred since my last update; • Firefighter Basic Skill Stations • Fire Officer's Operational Meeting 0 EMS Training Other Activities: • The fire department proudly participated with many of the city's Fourth of July Events. This included; medical standby crews for the Street Dance, City Wide Response crews for the Parade and Fireworks; and Fireworks suppression crews for Lake Ann and Lake Minnewashta. I have no significant incidents to report from any of those details • On July 6th, 4 probationary firefighters were issued their badges and passed probation at the Black Hat Ceremony. • On July 11th, we assisted with a standby crew for the Tonka Mud Run at Lake Minnewashta Regional Park. • On July 15th we assisted with the City Safety Camp staffing a fire safety station and a water safety station. Chanhassen is a Community for Life - Providing for Today and Planning for Tomorrow • On July 171 we assisted the Excelsior Fire Department with a city wide stand by crew for their annual street dance. • Duty crew shifts were altered in July by reducing the current shifts from 5 hours to 4 hours. This aHowed for one additional shift a week. The alternate shift will inc6ude some daytime shifts as we strive to staff our busier times. Currently, any new single family home greater than 4500 square feet will need fire sprinklers installed. if anyone is curious to see these system being installed, please contact the Fire Chief or myself. This involves responding with an engine, preferably on a hot day, and misting the l-Cids with a fire hose. This is a fun event and received very well every year.
