2015-63CITY OF CHANHASSEN CARVER AND HENNEPIN COUNTIES, MINNESOTA DATE: October 12, 2015 RESOLUTION NO: 2015-63 MOTION BY: Ryan SECONDED BY: McDonald RESOLUTION REGARDING MINNETONKA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT 276 REFERENDUM ON NOVEMBER 3, 2015 WHEREAS, the Chanhassen City Council recognizes that a quality system of public and private schools is highly regarded by the residents and businesses of Chanhassen; WHEREAS, Independent School District 276 serves a portion of Chanhassen as well as the cities of Excelsior, Minnetonka, Shorewood, Deephaven, Eden Prairie, Greenwood, Tonka Bay, Victoria and Woodland; WHEREAS, the Chanhassen City Council supports the efforts of the Independent School District 276 school board, administration, teachers and staff to provide high quality educational opportunities for all students; WHEREAS, Independent School District 276 will be holding a referenda vote on November 3, 2015 in which it will ask the following two questions of residents of the District: • Question 1 asks voters to renew and increase the District's annual operating levy by $340 per pupil, from $1,250 to $1,590 per pupil, for taxes payable in 2016, with another increase to $2,046 per pupil for taxes payable beginning in 2019. Inflationary increases occur annually during the 10 -year period; and Question 2 asks voters to renew the existing capital projects technology levy at its current rate for 10 years. WHEREAS, Independent School District 276 has provided significant information on their website and through various meetings and presentations about both ballot questions; the district's educational, technology, and efficiency needs; and the projected financial effect of the questions on property taxes for residents and businesses. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Chanhassen, Minnesota, encourages all residents in Independent School District 276 to learn about the district's educational, technology, and efficiency needs; and to vote on both referenda questions on November 3, 2015. Passed and adopted by the Chanhassen City Council this 12'' day of October, 2015.
