Mrs. Thalia Stone passed away Thursday afternoon about two o'clock at the home of her son, Oliver K. Stone. She had enjoyed her dinner and was resting in her arm chair when the end came. Mrs. Stone had lived out the Psalmist's span of life, having reached her four score year. The deceased was born October 17, 1852 in Newport, Ohio. In 1869 she became the helpmate of John Miller, to which union two children were born, one of whom died in infancy, and one in 1914. In 1876 she went with her parents to Glencoe, where she married Eli Stone, to which union six children were born, three of whom survive their parents. During the same year they established their home near Excelsior. Here they joined the pioneers, prospered, made friends, and were as happy as any. Mrs. Stone was left a widow in 1909. She was a resident of this community for a period of fifty-six years. Mrs. Stone was a faithful, loving mother, and a very fraternal, helpful neighbor. She possessed that rate sense of human which enlivened every occasion where she was. The bright and happy aspects of life always appealed to her and she was not slow in transmitting them to others. She read the Bible and tried to keep abreast of these swift and exciting times. Her husband was a member of the G.A.R., and she was a member of the W.R.C. which was represented at the funeral by two standard bearers and others. Those who survive to cherish the memory of their loved one are John Stone, Hill City, Mrs. O.A. Rietz, Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Oliver K. Stone, Excelsior, also seven grandchildren and Mrs. James Livingston and Mrs. Lewis P. Pennington of Great Falls, Montanan, who called Grandma Stone mother for years while living in her home. She also brought up two step -children, Ed Stone of Staples and Mrs. George Nightingale who died some time ago. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 pm at the home of her son, Oliver K. Stone, and the interment was in the Chanhassen cemetery. Rev. James A. Geer of Excelsior, pastor, conducted the service, and Mrs. Leonard Roers and Mrs. Jesse Bitting sang three duets. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. Those who carried the remains to their last resting place were: J.E. Swenson, Arthur Lyman, Herbert Aspden, Valentine Rose, James Livingston and Reuben DeGroth.
