Information in a paper written by F.W. Powers on the history of the Powers family
contained the following:
"Harriett Moore married Mr. Lewis Thompson and they settled in Excelsior where
he worked as a carpenter. In time they had four children, three boys and a girl.
When the boys were quite young, there was an epidemic of diphtheria, and the
three boys died, leaving only the baby girl that they had named Clara. About a
year later, Mr. Thompson was taken with quick consumption and soon he died.
Mrs. Thompson then moved to her father's home and that is where my father
found her."
