Name James Aspden
Comments/History James Aspden was born in England and came to the U.S. in 1849. He was a
retired farmer and was single. In December of 1863, James enlisted in Company
D., Second Minnesota Cavalry. He later was promoted to Corporal. James
served as President of the Chanhassen Cemetery Association from 1873 to 1920.
He was a member of the First Independent Church of Excelsior and Chanhassen,
joining on 6/3/1866. He also inherited land from his father, Section 17, on
1/30/1873. In 1875, James engaged in general merchandising in Excelsior with
Mr. Murray. The store was called Murray and Aspden's Variety Store. In 1877, the
namne was changed to Aspden and Eddy's. In 1989, James returned to duties on
the farm.
