SUBJ: Discussion Topics for Joint City Council/Senior Commission Meeting
The following are the Senior Commission's Accomplishments, Goals and Objectives
for 2016:
Volunteer and support city events and local organizations (Memorial Day,
Veterans Day, Beyond the Yellow Ribbon, Arbor Day, 4th of July, Senior Picnic,
etc.) Mentor, participate and educate future generations through programs by
working with Goddard School, inviting children to the Senior Center for
activities, monthly article in the local papers, etc.
2. Continue to advocate different forms of transit and build on Carver County's
efforts to promote safe driving. Promote and expand the use of WeCab and
SouthWest Transit.
3. Prolong independent living in the home. Continue to introduce a variety of
programs to assist with daily living such as Universal Design, Store to Door,
Meals on Wheels, CarFit, Transit, etc.
4. The City of Chanhassen was approached by Carver County's Office of Aging to
become an ACT on Alzheimer's community. Chanhassen is currently an official
partner of the ACT on Alzheimer's initiative which is volunteer -driven
collaboration bringing communities together to create supportive environments
for those touched by Alzheimer's. An 18 member ACTion Team represented by
various community sectors within Chanhassen meets on monthly basis. On April
14, 2016, a Dementia Education Specialist from Mayo will be facilitating two
focus groups to gather feedback about what community support should look like
for people with memory loss.
5. Investigate options to attract younger seniors/Baby Boomers.
