Meeting Discussion Points
The Park and Recreation Commission is looking forward to meeting with the
Mayor and the City Council to acknowledge past accomplishments and to discuss
programmed and potential future projects.
The Park and Recreation Commission would like to acknowledge the efforts
required to complete the following projects last year:
1. Recreation Center Revitalization Project - $25,000: Replacement of two
treadmills, addition of digital information screen in lobby, FM audio
transmitter for fitness center, and replacement countertops for conference
room and Lake Minnewashta room.
2. Downtown Flowers - $2,000: Over 2,000 summer annual flowers were
planted and maintained in our downtown.
3. Trees - $15,000: In 2015, trees were planted at the Pioneer Cemetery
Expansion, Historic Train Depot, Historic City Hall, Lake Ann Park, and Lake
Susan Park.
Planning & 4. Picnic Tables/Park Benches - $10,000: In 2015, benches were added at
Natural Resources Stone Creek Park, 12 new picnic tables were purchased, and six picnic table

7. Soccer Field Fence, Bandimere Community Park - $20,000: A safety and ball
containment fence was installed on Soccer Field 1 to restrict most kicked balls from entering
roadways or parking lots.
8. Reconstruct County Road 61, Trail Contribution - $150,000: The trails include an
underpass of County Road 61 and a full trail passage along the new Highway 101 Bridge to
Scott County.
9. Neighborhood Park Picnic Shelter Initiative - $120,000: The construction of three new
neighborhood park picnic shelters was completed at Pheasant Hill Park, Curry Farms Park,
and Lake Susan Hills Park.
10. POSTPONED Galpin Boulevard Trail Extension - $150,000: The City of Shorewood
elected to reject all bids for this project. Unfortunately, we do not foresee that this work will
proceed in the near future.
The Park and Recreation Commission is pleased to be working on the following projects
programmed for 2016 to 2020.
1. Annually - Downtown Flowers - $2,000: Over 2,000 summer annual flowers are planted
and maintained in our downtown.
2. Annually - Picnic Tables/Benches - $10,000: Purchase of new and replacement picnic
tables and benches.
3. Annually - Trees - $15,000: Annual tree planting program.
4. 2016 Highcrest Meadows Trail Connector Improvements - $20,000: Construction of new
concrete pedestrian ramps with truncated domes and improved curb tapers, full height curbs,
and installation of highly visible "No Motor Vehicles Allowed" signs.
5. 2016 Roundhouse Park Sport Court Project - $254,000: Construction of one tennis court,
four pickle ball courts and one half -court basketball.
6. 2016/17 Park and Recreation System Master Plan and Comprehensive Plan Park and
Open Space Chapter Request for Proposals: The city is soliciting proposals from
experienced consultant firms for the creation of a Park and Recreation System Master Plan.
This planning process will update our Park and Open Space Comprehensive Plan and provide
a 20 -year vision and Capital Investment Plan (CIP) for the Chanhassen Park, Recreation,
Trail, and Open Space Systems.
7. 2016/17 Rec Center/Bluff Creek Elementary Roof Reconstruction - $240,000 (City
Share): New roof on the Chanhassen Recreation Center and Bluff Creek Elementary School.

8. 2016/17 Bandimere Park Hockey Rink and Parking Expansion Project - $600,000:
Installation of an outdoor hockey rink, dasher boards, lights, open skating rink, parking lot
expansion, and associated improvements.
9. 2016/17/18 Neighborhood Park Picnic Shelter Initiative - $280,000: Construction of
picnic shelters at Carver Beach Playground, Greenwood Shores Park, Minnewashta Heights
Park, Herman Field Park, South Lotus Lake Park, Sunset Ridge Park, and Prairie Knoll Park.
10. 2016/17/18/19 Recreation Center Revitalization Project - $100,000: Replacement of
fitness room equipment, furniture, window treatments, carpeting, and countertops. Purchase
of fitness center audio system and a digital information system for the lobby.
11.2017 Entry Signs - Bandimere Park and Lake Susan Park - $60,000: Installation of stone
monument signs including illuminated letters at Bandimere and Lake Susan Community
Parks.
12. 2018 Bandimere Community Park Picnic Shelter - $640,000: Construction of a large
group picnic shelter near the playgrounds.
13. 2019 Chanhassen Nature Preserve Trail, Final Phase - $90,000: Construction of the final
900 feet of trail located on the perimeter of Lot 2, Block 1 Arboretum Business Park 7 1
Addition.
14. 2019 Tennis Court Refurbishment - $150,000: Resurface and crack -seal tennis courts at
Lake Susan Park, Meadow Green Park, North Lotus Lake Park, South Lotus Lake Park, and
the Chanhassen Recreation Center.
15. 2020 Bandimere Park Tennis Court - $225,000: Construction of double asphalt surface
tennis court including lights, fencing, backboard, and basketball hoops.
In closing, the Park and Recreation Commission would like to acknowledge the Chanhassen City
Council's leadership in helping to guide the continued expansion and maintenance of the city's
park, recreation, and trail facilities.
