CC SUM 2016 05 23 CHANHASSEN CITY COUNCIL REGULAR MEETING SUMMARY MINUTES MAY 23, 2016 Mayor for a Day Sophia Grancarich called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. COUNCIL MEMBERS PRESENT: Mayor Laufenburger, Councilman McDonald, Councilwoman Ryan, and Councilman Campion COUNCIL MEMBERS ABSENT: Councilwoman Tjornhom MAYOR AND COUNCIL MEMBERS FOR A DAY PRESENT: Mayor Sophia Grancarich, and Councilmembers Luke Williams, J.T. Rathbun, and Will Gebauer STAFF PRESENT: Todd Gerhardt, Chelsea Petersen, Paul Oehme, Kate Aanenson, Todd Hoffman, Jill Sinclair, and Roger Knutson PUBLIC PRESENT: Saralyn Nielsen 9390 Partridge Road Shea Thompson 6245 Mallory Lane th Claire Zupan 15220 38 Street th Tyler Miller 600 West 78 Street Olivia Russo 8746 Prescott Kevin Screpes 568 West Wood Lane PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENTS: Mayor for a Day contest winners introduced themselves and indicated what grade and school they attend prior to Mayor Laufenburger presenting each with their nameplate and pin. CONSENT AGENDA: Councilman McDonald moved, Councilman Campion seconded to approve the following consent agenda items pursuant to the City Manager’s recommendations: 1. Approve City Council Minutes dated May 9, 2016 Resolution #2016-40: 2. Approve Resolution Accepting Donation from KleinBank for Summer Concert Series. 3. Approval of Temporary Liquor License, Chanhassen Rotary Club, July 3-4, 2016 All voted in favor and the motion carried unanimously with a vote of 4 to 0. City Council Summary – May 23, 2016 VISITOR PRESENTATIONS: PRESENTATION OF $2,500 DONATION FROM KLEINBANK FOR SUMMER CONCERT SERIES. Tyler Miller with KleinBank presented a check in the amount of $2,500 for the Summer Concert Series. LAW ENFORCEMENT/FIRE DEPARTMENT UPDATE. Lt. Eric Kittelson reviewed the statistics for the month of April before introducing Sergeant Moline who is the grant coordinator of the Towards Zero Death for Carver County. He reviewed the Towards Zero Death initiative th will be held until June 5 and educating pedestrians, cyclists and motorists about trail crossings. Mayor Laufenburger asked Lieutenant Kittelson to comment on the events at Paisley Park and Cars and Coffee. Chief Don Johnson discussed April numbers for staffing, calls for service, training, active shooter training and the annual fire department banquet. TH WEST 78 STREET WATER MAIN EXTENSION PROJECT: APPROVE RESOLUTION ACCEPTING BIDS AND AWARDING CONTRACT. Paul Oehme presented the staff report on this item. Councilwoman Ryan asked about notifying residents of water disruptions. Mayor Laufenburger asked about watermains dead ending in other parts of the city and the number of affected property owners before asking for a motion. Resolution #2016-41: Councilwoman Ryan moved, Councilman Campion seconded that the Chanhassen City Council approves a construction contract in the amount of th $220,596.06 to GM Contracting, Inc. for work to be performed on West 78 Street Water Main Extension Project No. 14-07. All voted in favor and the motion carried unanimously with a vote of 4 to 0. ADMINISTRATIVE PRESENTATIONS. Todd Gerhardt discussed Building Inspector Doug Hoese’s retirement after 21 years of service and noting that a replacement has already been hired from St. Louis Park. COUNCIL PRESENTATIONS. Councilman McDonald discussed the Chanhassen Beyond the Yellow Ribbon who held their annual awards presentations for all high school seniors who are going into the military and thanked the American Legion for donating the space and food for the event. Mayor Laufenburger commented on the Chanhassen Red Birds season opener against the Belle Plain Tigers. CORRESPONDENCE DISCUSSION. None. Councilman McDonald moved, Councilwoman Ryan seconded to adjourn the meeting. All voted in favor and the motion carried unanimously with a vote of 4 to 0.
