Carver County intends to amend the 2006 Master Plan for the Southwest Regional Trail
Connection. This master plan provides a trail alignment which connects between the North and
South Light Rail Transit corridors which are occupied by the Lake Minnetonka Regional Trail
and the MN River Bluffs Regional Trail respectively. Additionally, the proposed amendment is
consistent with the 2030 Carver County Comprehensive Plan and the Metropolitan Council 2040
Regional Parks Policy Plan.
The planned amendment proposes to extend the Southwest Regional Trail Connection 3/4 mile
east from the Chaska/Chanhassen boundary to Bluff Creek Drive. Currently the City of
Chanhassen maintains an aglime trail on this section.
This amendment is necessary in order for regional funding of the Metropolitan Council to be
applied and matched with 2017 federal funding for the project.
The 2017 trail project, when constructed, will pave a 10' wide trail connecting Chanhassen to
the paved portion of the trail alignment in Chaska. Further, a scenic overlook with interpretive
signage is planned to help educate the public about the Seminary Fen Scientific and Natural
Area.
Attached is the amended master plan and mapping work for review. Changes are underlined or
stricken on pages 1.3, 2.4, 3.3, 3.5, 3.6, 3.7, 5.2, 5.3, 5.5.
Carver County respectfully requests a resolution supporting the Southwest Regional Trail
Connection Master Plan Amendment.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.
Sincerely,
Martin Walsh
Parks Director
