Attached is a copy of the proposed amendment to the Uniform Fire Code referenced in the Fire Prevention Section of the Chanhassen City Code. Upon reviewing our city code, I found that our adoption of the 1988 Fire Code was an old reference, and for the past five years we have actually been using the 1991 Fire Code. The State Fire Marshal's office just adopted the 1998 Uniform Fire Code, and I recommend that we adopt the same fire code. I have been working with Roger Knutson, the City Attorney, on this project, and he drew up the draft copies which are attached for your review. I would like to get these copies to City Council for approval as soon as possible, in order to ward off any conflicts between codes. If you have any questions, please call me at extension 262.
