routine and emergency communications. This includes handheld and truck mount radios. The
Building Inspections current radios were purchased around 2001 with an anticipated life span of 15 years. This past

Engineering Based on the anticipated life span,the 2017 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) has included a place

Minnesota contract for Motorola, has advised me that making the purchase in CY2016 will allow
Finance the city to benefit from a $500 per radio exchange. This rebate would result in an approximate

Park&Recreation funding source to support the purchase.

The radios had been previously scheduled to be replaced in 2017 from the Capital Equipment
Recreation Center Replacement Fund. As City Council knows from previous years' CIP discussions,the Capital

Fax:952.227.1404 related improvements.The amount needed for the radios ($225,000) would ultimately end up
using 28%of the total annual levy, making it extremely difficult to make many other needed

To take advantage of the trade in discount and knowing that in either case reserves would most
