Pollution Prevention Week is a nationally celebrated event that gives government
agencies, business groups and communities a chance to recognize the importance
of reducing pollution and preventing waste. Each day of Prevention Week has a
special topic: Monday Cleaners
Tuesday Paper
Wednesday Packaging
Thursday Paints and Solvents
Friday Food
Saturday Community Action
Sunday Stewardship
The Chanhassen Environmental Commission is requesting the City Council
proclaim September 21-27, 1998 as Pollution Prevention Week in Chanhassen.
During the week, the Commission will bring attention to the importance of
pollution prevention through newspaper articles and other announcements. In
addition, the Pillsbury plant will be hosting an open house on Thursday,
September 24.

PROCLAMATION ESTABLISHING SEPTEMBER 21-27,1998 AS
MINNESOTA POLLUTION PREVENTION WEEK
WHEREAS, the people of Minnesota take great pride in the state's natural beauty and
support a clean and safe environment; and
WHEREAS, Pollution prevention, also known as source reduction, is a progressive
approach that eliminates or reduces pollution at its source and is the most environmentally sound
methods of protecting our natural resources; and
WHEREAS, Pollution prevention can increase industrial and resource use efficiency, save
participating organizations time and money and create a more sustainable economy; and .
WHEREAS, Pollution prevention measures can improve environmental conditions and
maintain the health and safety of people in the workplace while increasing commercial
competitiveness; and
WHEREAS, Through increased use of pollution prevention, Minnesota can meet the
challenge of having ecologically healthy communities and a vigorous business environment for its
citizens; and
WHEREAS, Pollution Prevention Week will be observed by state governments and other
organizations throughout the nation and this recognition is an opportunity for government to work
together with business, industry, environmental groups, community organizations and citizens for a
prosperous and sustainable future;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Nancy K. Mancino, Mayor of the City of Chanhassen, do hereby
proclaim the week of September 21-27, 1998 as
"MINNESOTA POLLUTION PREVENTION WEEK"
in the City of Chanhassen, and encourage all citizens to join in this observance.
