04-08-2015 Chanhassen Environmental Commission (EC) Regular Meeting April 8, 2015 Members Present: Glenn Kaufmann, Katie Mahannah, Bret Borth, Amy Omann Members Absent: Matthew Myers Staff Present: Jill Sinclair, Environmental Resource Specialist Minutes: March minutes were approved. Election of Chair/Vice-Chair: By unanimous vote, Amy Omann was elected Chair and Bret Borth elected as vice-chair. Joint meeting discussion: The commission will be meeting with the City Council on May 11. The time is to be determined. The commission will present the 2015 Sustainability Report to the council. It was agreed that a one- page summary will be given to the council as well as access to the full report. The commission also wants to update their 2014-2015 accomplishments and projects. Amy O volunteered to look over the accomplishments and projects and do any updating necessary. Sustainability Report: The report is finished and given to Jill who will hand it off to the city designer. A discussion was had about the style of the report for this year. It is to be an online document and therefore can be more interactive than in previous years. The layout can be different from a letter-sized page. There will be a one- page summary available for the public and the council. Arbor Day planning: For the library AD display: Katie offered to make the felt tree and leaves for the children’s area; Jill will set up the EAB display the week leading up to Chan AD; commissioners will hang th posters in the Wilder room on April 28 at 2:30. For the Poster Contest: Amy O and Matt can attend the presentation and help hand out awards. For the Villager article: Amy O and Amy W have written an article for AD; Amy will review it and have it ready for publication by April 20. For the photo contest: The contest will be announced on April 27; a news brief will be made for the contest for the 4//30 villager which Bret will write; it will be added to the marquee; the top photos will be selected at the meeting in June and a popular vote will be done at the July 3 business expo (using tin cans and acorns); it was suggested to addition photo location info on submission form. For the AD event: Glenn will cut the tree tags to size; Amy will come to city hall to laminate on April 29 or 30; on AD Glenn will pick up coffee and Jill will get the Cub supplies. rd July 3 Business Expo planning: Commissioners who can attend the event include Matthew, Bret and Glenn. Amy and Katie are out of town. The booth will have EAB info and the photo contest – it will be a tree theme for this year. The EAB display will be used. The seed bracelets were a hit and the commission recommended ordering more. Maybe a bug tattoo too. They wondered about giving out recycling coupons as well. General Discussion :  The commission reviewed the applications from 5 residents applying for the 2 vacant seats on the commission.
