PRC SUM 2016 12 13 CHANHASSEN PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING SUMMARY MINUTES DECEMBER 13, 2016 Chairman Kelly called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. MEMBERS PRESENT: Cole Kelly, Brent Carron, Jim Boettcher, and Rick Echternacht. Jennifer Hougham arrived during visitor presentations. PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENTS: None. VISITOR PRESENTATIONS. Samuel Treat, 2148 Wynsong Lane explained why Webelos Troop 330 was attending the meeting. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Carron moved, Echternacht seconded to approve the verbatim Minutes of the Park and Recreation Commission meeting dated November 22, 2016 as amended on page 9 by Chairman Kelly, and approve the summary Minutes of the Park and Recreation Commission meeting dated November 22, 2016 as presented. All voted in favor and the motion carried unanimously with a vote of 5 to 0. Park and Recreation Commission – December 13, 2016 RECOMMENDATION TO CITY COUNCIL ACCEPTING DONATION OF LION’S HEAD DRINKING FOUNTAIN FROM THE CHANHASSEN LIONS CLUB. Todd Hoffman provided background information on projects performed by the Chanhassen Lions Club in the past. Dan Mertes presented an overview of the proposed lions head drinking fountain installation at Lake Ann Park. Carron moved, Echternacht seconded that the Park and Recreation Commission recommends that the City Council accept the donation of the Lions Drinking Fountain from the Chanhassen Lions Club to replace the existing water fountain at the Lake Ann Park ball field concession area. All voted in favor and the motion carried unanimously with a vote of 5 to 0. PARKS AND RECREATION SYSTEM PLAN PROGRESS REVIEW. Todd Hoffman introduced Gabrielle Grinde with Hoisington-Koegler Group Inc. who reviewed the project process, community engagement recap, recreation trends, system evaluation, needs assessment findings, peer community comparisons and national standards, key findings and the next steps in the process. Chairman Kelly asked if Ms. Grinde could correlate with the survey responses how people would feel about losing soccer and baseball fields to expand the Rec Center. Commissioner Carron asked how the data will be narrowed down to present a specific vision. Chairman Kelly asked Commissioner Boettcher to provide an update on the make up and discussions that have taken place so far in the advisory committee meetings. SENIOR CENTER UPDATE. Sue Bill presented the report reviewing activities at the Senior Center. PARK AND TRAIL MAINTENANCE OPERATIONS UPDATE. Adam Beers provided an update on facility shutdowns, skating rinks, trail maintenance and construction projects. RECREATION CENTER UPDATE. Jodi Sarles presented updates on the Dance for Fun program, Rec Center Sports, 2016 Artisan Fair, 2016 Holiday Boutique, adult activities, and promotional events. TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY EVALUATION. Katie Favro presented the report on the Tree Lighting Ceremony. COMMISSION MEMBER COMMITTEE REPORTS. None. COMMISSION MEMBER PRESENTATIONS. None. ADMINISTRATIVE PACKET.
