City Council approval requires a simple majority vote of the City Council present. DISCUSSION AND JUSTIFICATION Vehicle#307 is assigned to the Sewer and Water Department for utility locates. On December 12,2017 this vehicle hit an icy patch of pavement, skidded off the road, and hit a sign. No injuries were reported and no other vehicles were involved in the incident;however, the vehicle sustained major damage and is undrivable.Vehicle #307 is a 2009 Ford Escape with 114,000 miles and was valued at$5,000 before the accident. The insurance policy carried by the city has a deductible of$5,000. The estimate to repair the vehicle is over$5,000. This vehicle was planned and budgeted for replacement in the 2017 CIP. Typically, vehicles planned for replacement are considered for approval by the City Council in February. However, because of the accident, staff is recommending this vehicle be replaced sooner than the other vehicles. Staff proposes to replace the Ford Escape with a small SUV Chevrolet Equinox. The purchase would be through the State of Minnesota vehicle contract pricing which is typically the best pricing the city can obtain. The city should be able to recover some of the loss by selling the Ford Escape at auction for salvage.
