PROPOSED MOTION
The City Council approves the Fox Woods Preserve Master Plan as drawn by WSB and
Associated on June 21, 2016 and amended on January 5, 2017 adding boundary fencing.
BACKGROUND
In January of 2016, the city retained WSB and Associates to provide professional landscape
architectural services related to master planning of the Fox Woods Preserve.

The park service area of community parks and preserves extends to a distance of 1-2 miles for
walking. Residents beyond this distance will bicycle or drive to these desirable open space
amenities. The 57-acre Fox Woods Park Preserve is located directly adjacent to the recently
approved Foxwood Subdivision and is one quarter mile directly west of Bandimere Park, a 45-
acre actively programmed community ball field facility.
Development of public access points to the Fox Woods Park Preserve,through a combination of
vehicle and pedestrian touch points, as well as the installation of a series of nature trails within
the preserve,will begin concurrent with the development of the Foxwood Subdivision(Wilson
Nursery) and future development to the south.
PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION REVIEW AND RECOMMENDATION
On June 21,2016 the Park and Recreation Commission reviewed the proposed master plan for
the Fox Woods Preserve, including a citizen input and comment period.
Scharfenberg moved, Thunberg seconded that the Park and Recreation Commission recommends
that the City Council approves the Fox Woods Preserve Master Plan as drawn by WSB and
Associated dated June 21,2016. All voted in favor and the motion carried unanimously with a
vote of 7 to 0.

A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE FOX WOODS PRESERVE MASTER PLAN
WHEREAS,the Fox Woods Preserve was acquired following the successful passage of a
1997 Park, Open Space, and Trail special election.
WHEREAS,the preserve will contain a system of natural surface and bituminous
walking trails intended to give visitors the opportunity to experience the beautiful woodlands and
wetlands of the area.
WHEREAS,the 58 acres preserve is located directly adjacent to the recently approved
Foxwood subdivision and will open for the first time to the public as a result of trail accesses
being installed in the new housing development.
WHEREAS, on June 21, 2016 the Park and Recreation Commission reviewed the
proposed master plan for the Fox Woods Preserve, including a citizen input and comment period
and recommended on a unanimous vote that the plan be approved.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and City Council of the City
of Chanhassen approve the Fox Woods Master Plan as drawn by WSB and Associates on June
21, 2016 and amended on January 5, 2017 adding boundary fencing.
Passed and adopted by the Chanhassen City Council this 23rd day of January, 2017.
