SUBJ: Fire Department Council Update for April 2017
Fire Department Staffing:
Staffing at the end of March totaled 35 of 45 paid on call firefighters. One firefighter is on medical leave.
The 2017 hiring process is under way with nine candidates receiving conditional offers. These offers are
contingent on successful completion of a medical exam, psychological testing, and a fingerprint
background check. The start date for successful candidates is June 7.
Fire Department Response:
The fire department responded to 65 calls for service in April. Duty crew responded to 10 of those calls
on scheduled shifts bringing the YTD total to 31.YTD calls total 234, which is about 12% higher than last
year at this time. Significant Calls included;
• (34) EMS calls including(5) Motor Vehicle Accidents
Monthly Training:
Training that occurred since my last update;
• Officer Leadership Development Training
• Officer Pre-Plan visit to Childrens Learning Adventure
• Hazmat Response Training and Emergency Guidebook Familiarization
• Fire Flow/Fire Path Training with the Southwest Joint Operations Group
• Mandatory Live Burn Training

Monthly Fire Marshal Report
Investigations:
There was a small fire at West Farm Road on May 9th. Upon arriving,the Fire Department discovered
that the homeowner had extinguished a fire in a wine refrigerator. We assisted with smoke removal
and advised the homeowner to notify their insurance company.There was minor smoke damage to the
home.
Fire Inspections :
Building projects at various stages of plan review/construction include;
• Chick-Fil-A—Starting parking lot work
• LaMettry's Auto Body and Repair Shop-Buildings are progressing well
• IDI Industries-Final stages of construction
• Twin Cities Storage-Fire sprinkler system will be tested soon
• Michael King Orthodontics-Started calling for final inspections
• A number of tenant remodeling projects are also underway
