SUBJ: Fire Department Council Update for June 2017
Fire Department StaffinIZ:
Staffing is now at 41 of 45 paid on call firefighters. One firefighter is on medical leave. Firefighter
Bob Flakne resigned effective the end of June with 5 years of service.
The 7 new probationary firefighters have begun Emergency Medical Responder training on
Tuesdays and Thursdays which is due to be completed by August 171H
Fire Department Response:
The fire department responded to 86 calls for service in June. Duty crew responded to 12 of
those calls on scheduled shifts bringing the YTD total to 54. In 2017, CFD has responded to 375
calls for service compared to 328 for the same period in 2016. This is an overall 14.3% increase
at the mid-year point.
Significant Calls included;
• (42)EMS calls including (3) Motor Vehicle Accidents
• (1) Structure Fire assist from Eden Prairie
• (12) Storm related calls on June I Ph
Monthly Training:
Training that occurred since my last update;
• Relay Pumping with Aerial Apparatus Demonstrations
• Auto Extrication Training
• Residential and Commercial First Due Response Skills
• Officers Training to include a class on Thermal Imaging Technology

Other Activities:
• Chanhassen Fire filled several work details for the Fourth of July events throughout the 3
day period.
o Duty Crew Standby on July 2nd Family Fun Night
o EMS Stand By for Street Dance
o Parade EMS Crew
o City Wide Standby Engine Company
o Staffing of(3)fire apparatus for the parade
• Annual Black Hat Ceremony was held on July 17th honoring Keegan Geske and Cody
Pribble for passing the two year probationary requirement.
• Annual Tonka Mud Run on July 22nd—Engine Company with 5 firefighters.

Investigations:
No report.
Fire Inspections
Building projects at various stages of plan review/construction include;
• Powers Ridge Senior Apartments
• LaMettry's Automotive Repair Facility
• IDI Distributors warehouse addition
• Redline Athletics
• Tweet Dental
• Lifetime Fitness Club addition
• Emerson addition
• Chanhassen West Water Treatment Plant
• A few smaller remodeling projects
All projects are progressing well with no fire code related issues. Projects that are under review
are Avienda and the Venue.
