Mike Ryan, a 12 year veteran firefighter, retired in July. An additional probationary firefighter also resigned during the month. The 7 new probationary firefighters have completed Emergency Medical Responder training and started responding to medical calls. The regional training academy begins August 28th and will go through March of 2018. Fire Department Response: The fire department responded to 66 calls for service in July. Significant Calls included; • (39) EMS calls including (6) Motor Vehicle Accidents • (1) Structure Fire assist to Chaska • (1) Cooking related fire Monthly Training: Training that occurred since my last update; • Response to large commercial bldgs. @ Westwood Church • Leadership Coaching with the officer group • Hazardous Material Training • Apparatus Pump Operations and Hose Streams PH 952.227.1100 • www.ci.chanhassen.mn.us • FX 952.227.1110 7700 MARKET BOULEVARD • PO BOX 147 • CHANHASSEN • MINNESOTA 55317 Todd Gerhardt Fire Department Council Update August 28, 2017 Page 2 Other Activities: • On August 1 st, 4 apparatus and 3 command vehicles visited over 30 block parties on NNO. Seventeen firefighters and 3 assistant chiefs participated. • On August 14, all firefighters participated with mandatory firefighter physicals and mask fit testing. Additionally, all SCBA masks and packs were tested to NFPA compliance standard. • On August 15th, Chanhassen Fire assisted Carver County Emergency Management and the Landscape Arboretum with an Active Shooter Exercise. Rescue crews from Chaska, Victoria, and Excelsior also participated. Other participants included Ridgeview Ambulance, CCSO, U of M staff, and Westwood Church • On August 16th, seven candidates of the 24 applicants were interviewed by city staff. I will be working with Asst City Mgr Petersen on next steps throughout August. Monthly Fire Marshal Report Investigations: No report. Fire Inspections : Building projects at various stages of plan review/construction include; • Powers Ridge Senior Apartments • LaMettry's Automotive Repair Facility • Tweet Dental • Emerson addition • Chanhassen West Water Treatment Plant • A few smaller remodeling projects All projects are progressing well with no fire code related issues. Projects that are under review are Avienda and the Venue. Fire Education No report.
