MEMORANDUM

Approve Purchase, Carver Beach Park and Minnewashta Heights
Park Play Equipment Improvements
The summer of 2005 has been filled with a variety of playground improvements
in the community. New playgrounds have already being installed at Chanhassen
Hills, Curry Farms, North Lotus Lake and Rice Marsh Lake Parks. A new
playground will be installed at Lake Susan Park starting on August 15th. The
attached proposals from Earl F. Anderson, Inc. (EFA) are for the final two
projects at Carver Beach Park and Minnewashta Heights Park.
The playgrounds at Carver Beach Park and Minnewashta Heights Park are
undergoing a remodeling process. Both of these playgrounds currently consist
of a combination of wood timber and recycled plastic timber frames. The wood
timber frames and associated components are being disposed of, leaving the
newer recycled plastic timber frames and associated components in place.
Matching components removed from Chanhassen Hills Park and Rice Marsh
Lake Park are also being put back into use on these two projects. Rounding out
the projects are some new components shown on the attachments prepared by
Earl F. Anderson, Inc. EFA is also supplying the installation services associated
with the projects.
Staff has reviewed both proposals finding them to be consistent with our needs
and priced appropriately.
RECOMMENDA TION
It is recommended that the City Council approve the purchase and installation of
new playground components at Carver Beach Park and Minnewashta Heights
Park in the amounts of $22,896.95 and $10,979.96, respectively. Both of these
expenditures have been included in our 2005 playground projects budget (see
attached).
The City 01 Chanhassen · A growing community with clean lakes, quality schools, a chamning downtown, thriving businesses, winding trails, and beautitul parks A great place to live, work, and play.
