John T. Nevin's obituary was published in the Star Tribune on August 29 & 30,
2015 and read:
Nevin, John Thomas age 65, of Chanhassen, MN, passed away Thursday
morning, August 27, 2015. A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Sunday,
August 30 at Washburn-McReavy Albin Chapel, 7625 Mitchell Road, Eden Prairie
with Reverend Mark Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at 3:30 PM the
Chanhassen Pioneer Cemetery located at 8151 Galpin Blvd., Chanhassen. A get
together of John's friends and family will follow the burial at 6 PM the Knollwood
Place party room located at 3630 Phillips Pkwy, St. Louis Park, MN. Memorials in
John's honor may be made to St. David's school of Minnetonka. John was born on
July 1, 1950 in Minneapolis, MN to John D. and Eileen (Hayes) Nevin. He
graduated from Tower-Soudan High school in 1968 and from the University of
Minnesota in 1973. On May 4, 1980 he married the former Barbara Helaine Nilva
in Minneapolis, MN. John was employed for many years by the city of Edina
Municipal Liquor Store as an Assistant Store Manager at the 50th and France
location, where patrons affectionately referred to him as "The Senator" due to his
affable, warm, and engaging demeanor and devoted clientele. He continued
working part-time at MGM Liquor, Chanhassen after his retirement, was active
with Barbara in civic activities in Chanhassen and enjoyed reading, home
improvement, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. John is
survived by wife Barbara and two sons Edmund of Chanhassen, MN, and Sean
and wife Julia of Passaic, NJ; his grandchildren Rachel and Aaron Nevin, brother
Michael, sisters Mary, Ann, and Patricia, his father-in-law Sam Nilva, and
numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. John is preceded in death by his
parents John and Eileen, and brother Mark Nevin.
