Monthly City Council update
Fire Department Overview:
Staffing is at 40 active firefighters and 6 on probation as of August 2005; allocation is 45 PTEs.
We lost one of our probationary members due to a job change.
As of August 14, we are at 373 calls for the year, up 13 from 360 at the same time in 2004.
Since our last report we have not had any structure fires and we responded to Chaska for mutual
aid for a structure fire. The department also helped at the Carver County Fair with fire education
and fire protection.
Fire Training:
During the month of July the Fire Department conducted company level training (pumping, self
rescue, etc.) and also performed a city orientation/map reading course. The new rookie company
completed CPR! AED training and continued with Introduction to Firefighter 1 classes.
Fire Investigations:
The Fire Department has responded to three satellite fires so far this season; two were at Lake
Susan Park and one at Power Hill Park. No suspects or leads at this time. The Holiday Inn
received an indirect lightning strike. The damage was limited to some TV sets and phones that
were shorted out as well as the fire alarm panel. There was a small garage contents fire on Gray
Fox Curve. The cause of that fire was a child playing with a lighter.

Fire Inspections:
Goddard School should be receiving their C/O in the next few days. Fire sprinkler and fire alarm
tests are complete. Stone Creek Town Offices are at various stages of construction. Plans are
being reviewed on the last buildings and a number of new tenants are moving in. Ed and I will
be starting annual inspections of all the schools and daycare centers in the city. These
inspections should take approximately one week.
Fire Prevention:
The Fire Department participated in National Night Out. We had three trucks visit three
neighborhoods. The comments coming back are very favorable. During the week of August 1
through August 5, Ed and I visited a number of playgrounds and cooled the kids off with hoses
from the fire trucks. The kids loved it especially with temperatures in the 90s those days.
Preparations are being made for the annual Fire Department ~en House on October 16th and for
fire prevention week which is October 9th through October 15t .
