2002-28CITY OF CHANHASSEN CARVER AND HENNEPIN COUNTIES, MINNESOTA DATE: March 11, 2002 RESOLUTION NO: 2002-28 MOTION BY: Bovle SECONDED BY: Labatt RESOLUTION REGARDING SAFETY CONCERNS ON TRUNK HIGHWAY 7 FROM MINNEWASHTA PARKWAY TO ONE MILE EAST OF TRUNK HIGHWAY 41 WHEREAS, the City of Chanhassen, in partnership with the City of Shorewood, desires to support safe and efficient transportation corridors; and WHEREAS, State Trunk Highway 7 is a primary transportation corridor on the border between Chanhassen and Shorewood; and WHEREAS, there are numerous safety concerns on State Trunk Highway 7 between Minnewashta Parkway and one (1) mile east of the intersection of State Trunk Highway 41, which are highlighted by four (4) fatalities in separate accidents along this segment of the highway within the past six months; and WHEREAS, the Minnesota Department of Transportation has jurisdiction over this section is of roadway. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Chanhassen, Minnesota: 1. The Minnesota Department of Transportation is hereby requested to designate this section of roadway an Accident Reduction Zone and post appropriate signage for such designation. 2. City Staff is directed to work in cooperation with the Staff of the City of Chanhassen and the Minnesota Department of Transportation to identify and address safety concerns in this segment of roadway including but not limited to a Signal Justification Report considering a signal at the Intersection of Minnewashta Parkway and State Trunk Highway 7. 3. City Staff is directed to send a copy of this resolution to the City of Chanhassen and to the Minnesota Department of Transportation as a show of the City's commitment to a safe and efficient State Trunk Highway 7.
