A RESOLUTION CALLING FOR AUTHORIZATION OF FERGUSON
WATERWORKS TO PERFORM RESIDENTIAL WATER METER AND RADIO
REPLACEMENTS
WHEREAS, on April 13, 2020, the City of Chanhassen and Ferguson Waterworks
entered into a Settlement Agreement ("Agreement") for a Water Meter Replacement Project; and
WHEREAS, as part of that Agreement, pricing for both materials and installation are
guaranteed for a period of three years; and for each year thereafter, the pricing will increase
annually per the Consumer Price Index noted in the Agreement; and
WHEREAS, existing water meters radios are continuing to sporadically lose the ability
to communicate automatically and accurately read usage; and
WHEREAS, it was originally contemplated to utilize City staff for the majority of water
meter and radio replacements over an extended period of time; and
WHEREAS, the COVID-19 Pandemic resulted in the City temporarily halting all in -
person services, including water meter/radio replacements; and
WHEREAS, dedicating City staff for water meter replacements inhibits the ability to
efficiently manage other utility operational needs; and
WHEREAS, per the Agreement, the City can utilize Ferguson for the replacements, and
Ferguson has the ability and desire to perform such replacements; and
WHEREAS, utilizing the services of Ferguson for the replacements provides both
financial and customer service benefits.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Chanhassen, Minnesota, that:
The City Council authorizes Ferguson Waterworks to proactively replace all remaining
R450 radios and non -Neptune residential water meters within the timeframe remaining in
the current Agreement, including all duties needed to administer the replacement
program.
Passed and adopted by the Chanhassen City Council this 24 h day of May, 2021.
