On February 23, 1998 the City Council approved the first reading of the ordinance
amending City Code Sections 18-57 (g),(l). Over the past two weeks, staff has not
received any public comments regarding the ordinance amendments. Attached is a
summary ordinance for publication purposes and a condensed ordinance
amendment. It is therefore recommended that approval of the final reading be
given by the City Council.

AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPfER 18 OF THE
CHANHASSEN CITY CODE, THE SUBDIVISION ORDINANCE,
CONCERNING STREETS
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHANHASSEN ORDAINS:
SECTION 1. Section 18-57-" subsection (g) of the Chanhassen City Code is amended
to read:
(g) All centerline grades shall be at least 0.75 % and shall not exceed five (5)
percent for arterials, and seven (7) percent for all other streets. Whenever possible,
grades within thirty (30) feet of intersections or railroad crossings shall not exceed three
(3) percent.

SECTION 2. Section 18-57, subsection (1) of the Chanhassen City Code is amended to
(1) Where a proposed subdivision is adjacent to a limited access highway,
arterial, or collector street, there shall be no direct vehicular or pedestrian access from
individual lots to such highways or streets unless determined by the City Engineer there
is no other feasible means of access to the property and public safety is not jeopardized.
To the extent feasible, access to arterial streets shall be at intervals of not less than one-
fourth mile and through existing and established crossroads. Access along collector
streets will be restricted and controlled on the final plat.
SECTION 3. This ordinance shall be effective immediately upon its passage and
publication.

THIS ORDINANCE amended the Chanhassen City Code including the following:
Defining the minimum centerline street grade and granting the City Engineer the authority to
review and approve driveway accesses onto collector roads.
