MEMORANDUM

SUBJECT:
Authorize Preparation of Plans and Specifications for Well No.8,
Pumphouse Project 97-4A
The well drilling contract for Well No.8, which began in early June, is steadily
progressing with a completion expected around the end of October. This in
essence would represent the completion of the phase I portion of the overall Well
NO.8 project.
The next phase of this project is to construct the pump house facility which will
house all the mechanical and electronic controls for the well. As was done with
Well Pumphouse No.7, located to the north on Lake Lucy Road, the pumphouse
for Well NO.8 will be designed with exterior materials compatible with the
adjacent residential neighborhood (Highover Addition). This includes a decorative
brick fascia, a pitched roof and look alike ( fake) windows. One important interior
change with this facility is to have all the chemical equipment and injection points
contained in a chemical room separate from the electronic controls area (lesson
learned from the recent Well NO.7 problem).
The project engineer from Bonestroo Associates has prepared a preliminary cost
estimate and schedule for completing the Well NO.8 Pumphouse. The schedule is
somewhat aggressive in an effort to have this facility on the city's water system in
time for next summer's water demand.
It is therefore recommended that city council authorize Bonestroo and Associates
to prepare the plans and specifications for Well Pumphouse No.8, Project 97-4A.

Re: Well House No.8
City Project No. 97-4A
BRA File No. 393-98-807
Dear Anita:
As requested, we have prepared a preliminary sehedule for completing the Well No.8 pumping
facility design. The design will be completed similar to Well House No.7 in accordance with
our previous discussions.
The building will have a brick exterior and a gable type roof similar to' appearance of Well
House No.7. Roof material will he shingles or pre-finished metal. The intention is to use roof
construction that will avoid the need for installing fire protection sprinklers in the roof area. The
building will be smaller than well house 7 as no auxiliary engine drive is planned for this facility.
Building trim will be pre-finished steel.
The building will consist of two rooins, a control and pump room and a chemical feed room. All
chemical equipment and injection points will be contained in the chemical room.
The controls for this facility will be connected to the City's master control system. Components
for connecting a generator are included. The generator receptacles will be installed at a later date
when a larger generator is purchased.
The facility will have a bituminous driveway for access from TH 41 and only a small area in
front and north of the building will be mowed. Most of the site will be seeded with native type
grasses. Large pine trees will be planted to the eas! of the building as a sereen for nearby
. residents. A landscape plan will be prepared for the City to aid in discussions with the
developer.
