Re: Speed Zoning - City of Chanhassen
TH 101 (Great Plains Boulevard/Market Boulevard)
Dear Mr. Hempel:
We have completed an engineering and traffic investigation to determine reasonable and
safe speed limits for Trunk Highway 101 from West 86th Street to Trunk Highway 5, as
requested by the Chanhassen City Council in Resolution No. 97-86 dated October 27,
1997.
The results of our study indicate the current authorized speed limit of 40 mph is appropriate
for existing conditions.
We have enclosed copies of the speed samples collected for the study for your information.
If you have questions or additional concerns you wish to discuss, please contact either Ed
Brown (797-3129) or Jolene Servatius (797-3125).

This commendation is for your exemplary efforts in designing and implementing our
first Citizens' Police Academy. Having had the privilege to instruct and attend

Dear Scott and Beth:
I just wanted to thank you for providing me with the opportunity to attend the
Chanhassen Citizens' Academy. I found the topics covered very interesting. It was
evident that the instructors were excited to share their knowledge and experiences in their
areas of expertise.
Attending the academy gave me a better appreciation for the challenges and issues that
face public safety today. As the video depicted on graduation night, law enforcement has
gone through many evolution stages and will continue to change on into the future. The
better the understanding the public has regarding procedures and issues facing public
safety, the more successful the implementation and acceptance of these procedures.
Again, thank you for the great experience and please extend my appreciation to
Rosemount, Inc. for sponsoring the academy.
Best regards,
LLU

SUBJECT:
Storm Damage Inspections, Shoreview, MN
Steve Nelson, Shoreview Building Official, requested assistance from the City of
Chanhassen to inspect damage to homes in Shoreview that resulted from the storm on
Friday, May 15, 1998. Chanhassen provided one inspector on Monday, May 18, 1998
and two inspectors on Tuesday, May 19, 1998. Close to three hundred homes were
damaged in the storm, some with severe damage, many others with roof damage.
Over the course of the two days, we inspected over 100 homes with damage ranging
from severe with complete construction necessary to minor roofing damage. Not
only were we able to assist a neighboring city and former fellow employee. but it also
provided us an opportunity to gain experience should a disaster Occur here. The
system we had in place is a result of our own emergency management plan. This
worked well in Shoreview, and they appreciated our placards and storm damage
reports that we provided them. We will be discussing some changes we think are
necessary in our forms, and also what we need to do to be prepared should an event
such as this happen in Chanhassen.

Storm Damage Clean Up Update
As I'm sure everyone is aware, over the past two weeks, the south metro area has
experienced three significant storm events which have had a damaging effect on
the tree population in Chanhassen. As a service to Chanhassen residents, the
Street Maintenance Division offers assistance with the removal of the storm
damage trees. The Street Maintenance Department will pick up and remove limbs
up to 6" in diameter that are placed at the curbside. Limbs larger than 6" in
diameter are the responsibility of the property owner to dispose of. City crews
have been working extended hours since Monday to clean up the storm damage
debris. Due to the extent of storm damage debris, it is likely that crews will be
performing this task for at least another two weeks. Crews have begun working
on the west end of the city in the Lake Minnewashta area and will proceed easterly
until all of the streets have been canvassed. It is not necessary for residents to call
the Street Department to notify them that they have storm damaged trees since all
streets will be reviewed. All of the debris being picked up is being chipped and
temporarily stockpiled at the end of Park Court.
