Approve Plans and Specifications for Well No.8 Drilling Contract
and Authorize Advertising for Bids - Project No. 97-4
Attached are the specifications for the installation of Well No.8. This
improvement was identified in the approved comprehensive water policy plan and
is imperative to meet the service demands and fire protection requirements
associated with the City's rapid growth in population and industry. These
specifications specifically relate to the drilling and casing of the new well into the
Jordan aquifer at an estimated depth of 500 feet. The location for this new well
has been established within the Highover subdivision and is in the high pressure
zone region. At the January 26, 1998 City Council meeting acquisition of the land
for Water Supply Well No.8 was approved. Well No.8 is the second of two wells
ultimately needed to meet the future supply demands in the high-pressure zone; the
other well being Well No.7 which was constructed in 1996. The costs for the
drilling and casing of the well is estimated to be $220,000 and was included in the
approved 1998 budget. This project was also included in the approved
Comprehensive Water Policy Plan (February, 1993) which derived unit trunk
utility assessment charges for predicting overall system revenues in comparison to
the overall ultimate infrastructure costs. Plans for the well house facility will be
prepared for City Council approval in the late summer.
It is therefore recommended that the City Council approve the specifications for
the Well No.8 drilling contract and authorize advertising for bids, Project No. 97-
4. A copy of the specifications is available in the Engineering Department for
review.
