East Water Treatment Plant: Approve Change Order No.1
Project No. 04-08
REQUESTED ACTION
Approve Change Order #1.
BACKGROUND
Staff has been working on cost-saving items for the East Water Treatment Plant
project.
Below are the items that staff has identified as cost savings items:
1. Delete aluminum tube framing over Kallwall panels: -$18,596.00
This item was an architectural feature that went over the windows in the pump
room and the filter room.
2. Use aluminum picket style railing vs. specialized galvanized railing: -$24,870.00
These are the railings that go in front of the treatment plant and on top of the
retaining wall by the backwash tank
3. Use regular masonry blocks with sand vs. sound blocks with sand: -$10,090.00
This was a noise attenuation improvement to mitigate the sound in the control
room and the meeting room.
4. Use less expensive Standard R value Kallwall panels vs. High R value Kallwall
panels: $25,511.00. The Kallwall panels will be installed in the pump room and
the filter room.
5. Use standard Kallwall face sheet vs. high impact face sheet: -$4,249.00
The standard Kallwall face sheet has been used on other water treatment plants
successfully.
6. Delete 4" CMU's and provide 7" masonry anchors on upper walls as
applicable: -$1,850.00. Design change filler brick deleted.

7. Delete Lintels L2 and L13: -$850.00. Lintels for generator room not needed.
Total Deduct: $86,016.00
Adds to the Contract:
The soils correction has been completed. Poor soils were removed from the site
where 79th Street is going to be extended and where the raw watermain from the wells
will be installed. The removal of poor material and backfilling took approximately
three days to complete. Approximately 340 cubic yards of contaminated soils with
diesel fuel were also removed and properly landfilled. Also, two concrete truck
drums were removed from the site. One was filled with tar material which was
removed from the drum and properly disposed of. The drums were then cut up for
scrap metal.
Total Adds: $22,624.75
Total Change Order - Net Deduct: ($63,391.25)
Staff and the consultant engineer have reviewed the costs and find them acceptable.
