Monthly City Council update
Fire Department Overview:
The number of calls as of April 16, 2006 is at 138 compared to 150 calls as of this same date in 2005.
Staffing is at 46 active firefighters as of April 18, 2006, allocation is 45 PTEs.
We responded to a few lightning strikes during a storm of April 6. We will be looking at adding an
additional rookie class of three firefighters later this summer. We had a successful pancake breakfast
with the Lions Club at our station on April 9th. The turn-out was good and the weather was great.
Fire Training:
During the past month the Fire Department was given a presentation by the League of Minnesota
Cities regarding sexual harassment in the workplace and completed the state and federal required
classes for Incident Management. The probationary firefi'ghters have now completed Firefighter 1
and 2, Haz Mat operations and medical certification. The two rookies in the second group are
finishing up the first set of classes and will be beginning the second set.
Fire Marshal:
Ed and I along with firefighter Andrea Wenzlaff attended a three day seminar in St. Cloud sponsored
by the International Association of Fire Investigators (I.A.A.I.). It was an excellent seminar which
will definitely-help us with fire cause and determination. No fires to report.

Fire Inspections:
There is nothing to report in new construction. We do have a number of small remodeling projects.
They include the Golden Chalice Restaurant, the Nail Gallery and Wells Fargo Bank. Emerson
(Rosemount) broke ground on their second story 25,000 square foot addition. With new construction
slow at this time, we are able to conduct a number of existing building inspections. Weare close to
finishing up the CSM buildings on Lake Drive East.
