A RESOLUTION CONFIRMING SUPPORT FOR THE
LCMR GRANT APPLICATION REQUEST
WHEREAS, Bluff Creek is entirely contained within the corporate boundaires of the City
of Chanhassen; and
WHEREAS, the Creek represents a vitally important environmental and recreational
resource with the potential of linking the south Lake Minnetonka area to the Minnesota River
Valley and Wildlife Refuge; and
WHEREAS, preservation of the Creek Corridor has been identified as a goal of the 1991
City Comprehensive Plan, 1994-Surface Water Management Plan, and 1994 Highway 5 Corridor
Plan; and
WHEREAS, much of the Creek has been severely impacted by decades of agricultural
practices and is now threatened by rapid urbanization; and
WHEREAS, the environment, community, and region would benefit from a coordinated
approach to protecting and restoring the Creek ecosystem; and
WHEREAS, restoration of the Creek can serve as a model of how to meld the goal
environmental protection while creating an active and vital community; and
WHEREAS, restoration of the Creek can serve as a model for dealing with issues of water
quality in a watershed of the Lower Minnesota River; and
WHEREAS, as the City of Chanhassen is willing to commit up to $70,000 in funding and
at least $30,000 of in-kind contributions to the project.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Chanhassen City Council hereby adopts
a resolution confhTning Chanhassen's support for the LCMR grant application request.
