Appointment to the Environmental Commission
REQUESTED ACTION
The Environmental Commission recommends that the City Council appoint Bill
Fouks to the Environmental Commission for a term expiring March 31, 2009.
DISCUSSION
One seat on the Environmental Commission is currently open. Bill Fouks was
interviewed by the Commission on June 13, 2006. The commission recommends
that Mr. Fouks be appointed to the Commission.

Environmental Intern/Carver County Environmental Services - duties include supporting staff with various
solid waste regulatory programs-including investigating solid waste complaints, assist in running the
collection of the county's Household Hazardous Waste (IlliW) at the C.C. Environmental Center, and
working with the open bum program.
SWAC Field CrewlUniversitv of Minnesota Dem. of Soils. Water & Climate - Assisted in the maintenance,
planting, cultivating, and harvesting of several farm research plots in Western Minnesota, accumulated
various data from the plots and implemented into Excel formatted spreadsheets to increase feasibility.
Dairy Standardizer/Kemos Mari~old - This position involved the transfer of fluid cultured dairy products
throughout a dairy pasteurization plant with a generous portion of time spent in a lab setting managing pH
meters, centrifuges, and various chemical testing procedures to check chemical concentrations for
numerous CIP systems.

Reasons for Seeking this Position: I am hoping to improve and better my understanding on how
environmental issues are regulated within the community and how they are implemented to achieve their
goals. I am hoping to make any kind of contribution in the involvement of resolving the current
environmental issues that face the city of Chanhassen. I am a firm believer that the road to a sustainable
environment in which its residents can enioy starts with community awareness and I am hoping to
contribute to raising an overall appreciation for our environment.
Specific Qualifications for the Position: Through my coursework at the University, I have had a generous
amount of exposure to countless environmental issues and mitigation techniques which has enabled me to
act and communicate to others, a philosophy of environmentalism. I have had exposure in the field of
environmental review by means of examining EIS's and EA's and am familiar with numerous state and
private environmental agencies and programs. I have also dealt with many issues surrounding the
protection and sustainability of our environments' natural resources including erosion, pollution,
agriculture, urban sprawl, and waste management. My current position with Carver County has also
familiarized me with several environmentally governed ordinances and policies. It is also a part of this
position to engage with the public and work with them to promote a better living environment through
facilitating in the collection of their HHW. I also follow up on complaints that citizens may have in their
respective community concerning solid waste storage issues and open burning issues as well. I am exited
about this position and hope that I receive consideration. Thank You.
