More games, vendors, seatmg, and actIvItIes were eIther added or expanded upon from last year. Expenses and revenues both Increased from the previous year due to an Increased volume of celebratIOn partiCIpants. Below you will find a breakdown summary of all events that took place during the two day celebratIOn. RecommendatIOns are also Included with the IndiVIdual summanes followed by suggestions for next year. An expense/revenue sheet for the celebratIOn has been added on the end. JUL Y 3rd KiddIe Parade Approximately 400 kids partICIpated in thIS year's KIddie Parade. John Stutzman, the playground staff, and Lake Ann concession staff coordInated the logistICS of the parade. They did a great job making sure the parade ran smoothly. The Fire Department and the Carver County Sheriff's Department were of great aSSIstance In helpIng to ensure a safe route for all involved. Capn Sun Pouches were handed out to all parade participants. Numbers were down for thIS event from last year and high temperatures may have been the reason. BusIness FaIr The Chanhassen Chamber of Commerce Business Fair had 44 participants this year. The Chamber had a separate tent again thIS year for the BusIness FaIr. I would recommend they do the same for next year and pOSSIbly look at getting a bigger tent since the event is growing. I recommend Chamber cover the extra costs for a bigger tent since it is not necessary for our own needs. Kaptain KIrby Train RIdes This IS a great attractIOn for young kids and familIes. The kids have a wonderful tIme WIth thIS activity. I would recommend having the train ndes again next year. This attraction consIsts of very lIttle set-up and maintenance for the City. The City 01 Chanhassen · A growing community with clean lakes, quality schools, a charming downtown, thriving businesses, winding trails, and beautitul parks A great place to live, work, and play Face Pamtmg/Caricatures/ Air Brush Tattooist These are popular actIvities and remam to be a success at our celebratIOn. The City retamed 20% of all sales wIth these actIvItIes. With a better locatIOn, Just off the top of the CIty of Chanhassen food vendors "horseshoe", this vendor was busy from start to fimsh. I would recommend contmumg these actIvIties for next year. ThIS attraction consists of very little set-up and maintenance for the city. Carnival Games The carnIval games were a huge hit. The playground staff along with some volunteers and Lake Ann concession staff operated the games. They did a wonderful job and were a huge asset to our celebration. The MedIcme Show This is an entertaining group to have mtermingle wIth the business falr crowd before the Street Dance. I would invite them back next year. All About Girls Up-does and Makeovers (halr and make-up) This attraction was a big hIt this year. With a better location, Just off the top of the City of Chanhassen food vendors "horseshoe", this vendor too was busy from start to fimsh. The City retained 20% of all sales with these actIVItIes. I would recommend inviting this vendor back again next year. Water Wars Water Wars was great success and extremely busy agam this year. We had two Water Wars apparatuses thIS year and may want to conSIder additional Water Wars apparatuses for next year, as the lines were extremely long at times. The City took m 20% of their sales. I would recommend that we invIte them back next year. This attraction consists of very little set-up and maintenance for the CIty. Speedway Racing This attraction was once again extremely popular. There was a lme around the track right up until they closed down for the mght. This IS a great famIly event and mvolves very little setup. The City took in 20% of their total sales. I would invite them back next year. I relocated this attractIOn to the east side of the Chamber tent thIS year. Sales were up and being underneath the hockey nnk lIghts allowed business to go late into the night. Food and Beer Garden All around the food vendors had a very successful mght. I would suggest that we add some food vendors for next year to reduce Walt times m line. The food selection was good. The CIty of Chanhassen food vendors were moved closer to the beer tent this year and set m a horseshoe shape just north of the trail past the main tent. Pedestnan traffic was dIrected through the middle of the horse shoe into the "Game" area allowmg for maXImum exposure for the City of Chanhassen food vendors. The beer garden had an J.D. check this year and handed out wnst bands to those of age. This was a great idea but lots of people were unaware of thIS and waited in the beverage line only to be directed to the J.D. check. I recommend thIS process for next year and add more signs to make people aware of It. More room was also added around the beer tent WhICh helped this year and I recommend adding even more room next year. Tae K won Do Demo Jeff Engel and his staff provided our audience with an entertammg demonstration. His students seemed to enJoy performing for our event and It IS also a great opportunity for the City to promote our Tae Kwon Do program at the Rec. Center. I would invite them back again next year. ThIS attraction consists of very httle set-up and mamtenance for the city. Pony Rides/Corral ThIS seemed to be a very popular attractIOn. I would recommend havmg them back next year. The lines were quite lengthy at times even though we doubled the SIze of the ring and doubled the number of ponies. ThIS attraction consists of very little set-up and mamtenance for the CIty. Basketball Free Throw Shooting Contest This event was quite successful. We gave away trophies and basketballs to the winners in five different age categories. I would recommend runmng thIS event next year. Interactive Inflatable Games What a great attraction. These games where ideal for children of all ages. The lines were extremely long all night even though we added two more games than last year. The City took in 20% of their total sales. I recommend invItmg them back again for next year wIth a request of three additional games. This attraction consists of very little set-up and mamtenance for the city. Chalk It Up Contest ThIS event was quite successful as well. It was a lot of fun to see the creatIVIty that people use in drawing their designs. The contest had two categones most creatIve and most difficult, which was judged by John Stutzman and playground staff. I would recommend running this event again next year. I would also recommend making two separate aged categories. Babv Changing StatIOn A non-profit organization offered a privacy area for parents to change or feed theIr mfant children and toddlers. There was no cost mcurred by the city for this added feature. Service was provided at CIty Center Park for both days of the celebration. I would highly recommend havmg them back agam next year as they provIde a well apprecIated service. Street Dance What a great performance. I think that everybody at the celebration enjoyed their show. Once agam we rented the staging for the band, which really seems to work well. I would defimtely recommend renting the stage again next year and bookmg CBO. We added additional tables and chairs this year and I recommend looking at a larger tent for this attractIOn and addmg addItIonal chaIrs and tables for next year. AddItIonal porta-pottIes were added thIS year as well and I recommend increasmg the amount next year. JUL Y 4TH Adult Fishing Contest There were a total of 50 participants registered in this year's contest. Everyone that participated had a good tIme. The entry fee for the contest was $15. Every participant that registered also won a door prize. I would recommend offering this event again next year, as it is a nice activity to offer our adult population. It was brought up that a Derby Style contest be consIdered with a check in station so the event can go longer into the day and allow for more participants. Kid's Fishmg Contest A total of 80 kids participated in this year's fishmg festival. All kids received a grab bag with fishing items. We also gave away trophies and other prizes to the wmner's of the largest fish, longest fish and smallest fish in two different age categories. The contest was run by Charlie Eiler and by our playground staff. This event consists of very little set-up and maintenance for the city and I recommend it again for next year. Sand Sculpture Contest The contest was run and Judged by John Stutzman and the playground staff. WIth the amount of time and energy people put mto theIr sculptures we should look at mcreasing the prizes for next year and making multiple age groups. This is fun actIvity dunng the celebration and I would include it again in next year's celebration. Treasure Hunt An adult found the medallion after the fifth clue was given again just like last year. This is a fun and simple event and should be included in next year's celebration. The clues were organized by Gina Carlson and she did a wonderful job putting them together. Parade The parade had a predominant crowd again this year. The Chanhassen Rotary took the lead again In this event but had strong support and help from the CIty of Chanhassen. Ten porta-potties were added down 78th street this year to help relieve already stressed businesses along the parade route. The parade consIsted of eighty-nine entries. The parade continues to grow with viewing patrons who flood the downtown area. I recommend adding more volunteers or paid staff to help coordinate, control, and clean up after the viewing patrons. We need to maintain emergency routes and barricade off roads In a more successful manor to help WIth our Increasing numbers. Taste of Chanhassen and Car Show The Chanhassen Rotary also took the lead again in this event and too had strong support and help from the City of Chanhassen. Streets, roads, and parking lots were blocked off for these two events ahead of time to maintain a safe participant area. City of Chanhassen 4th of July t-shirts were sold during these events this year and I recommend doing the same next year. I also recommend addIng more volunteers or paId staff to help coordinate, control, and clean up after these events. Fireworks ThIS year's fireworks were again contracted through Melrose Pyrotechmcs. I thought they put on an excellent dIsplay. The staff at Melrose continues to do a great job coordInating all the logistics of the display. I would definitely look at having Melrose Pyrotechnics do our show agaIn next year but have them Increase the grand finale. Glow-sticks and Bracelets An outside vendor was brought In to sell glow-sticks and bracelets. I accepted bids from two vendors and gave the contract to Beverly Strand since she not only gave a higher bid, but was also willing to sell product dunng both mghts of the event. I recommend having the same product sold next year and continue haVIng the vendors bid for the contract. SuggestIOns for 2007 1. Look at addmg new and excItmg activitIes and expand upon the current ones to reduce wait time in lmes. 2. Look at adding more family orientated games/activities. 3. Continue blocking Audobon Rd. after the fireworks are complete this WIll allow us to keep traffic moving down to Galpm Blvd. 4. Make sure the lIghts under the concession bUIldmg by the ball fields get turned off during the fireworks. 5. Be sure to spray for mosquito's again next year at both City Center Park and Lake Ann. We received several posItIve comments from festival attendees. Coordinating and spraying with MetropolItan MosqUIto Control seemed to be well worth our efforts. 6. Make announcement during CBO's breaks. This would include: t-ShIrt sales, be sure to check prize board, raffle tickets for sale. 7. Order more kIds SIzes for t-shirts. This year we had youth large t- shirts to see how well they would be received. 8. Look at gettmg other city organizatIOns more involved in the overall celebratIOn. 9. Add a detailed parkmg map for the Lake Ann Park fireworks display on the back of the rules sheet that is handed out to viewing patrons. 2006 4TH OF JULY REVENUE AND EXPENDITURE REPORT REVENUE Food Vendors $ 3070.00 Prize Board $ 1044.75 Adult Fishmg $ 750.00 T -Shirt Sales $ 1286.00 Maund Entertamment $ 426.70 Night Light NoveltIes $ 405.00 Interactive Inflatable Games $ (500.00) est.
