93-20 CITY OF CHANHASSEN
CARVER AND HENNEPIN COUNTIES, MINNESOTA
DATE: March 8, 1993
RESOLUTION NO: 93-20
MOTION BY: Senn
SECONDED BY: Wing
A RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE REALIGNMENT OF HIGHWAY 41
WHEREAS, on March 8, 1993, the City Council reviewed background material on the
proposal to realign Highway 41, running between the Highway 212 right-of-way in the City of
Shakopee along the Chanhassen/Chaska border; and
WHEREAS, after reviewing the materials, the City Council has concluded that there is
no definitive current or future need for this roadway; and
WHEREAS, there are two major bridge crossings currently under construction that can
and will serve to accommodate many of the trips that would otherwise go on the realigned
Highway 41; and
WHEREAS, there is no public consensus as to the need for the roadway or to develop
support for it, as has been the case with other recent highway programs in this area; and
WHEREAS, the proposed alignment would have substantial environmental impacts on the
Minnesota River bluff line, a highly sensitive wetlands complex containing a calcareous fen, the
Minnesota Valley Wildlife Refuge, and upon adjoining properties.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Chanhassen City Council hereby
affirms this resolution to express its concern for the proposed realignment of Highway 41 in this
area and to express its lack of support for the concept.
Passed and adopted by the Chanhassen City Council this 8th day of March, 1993.
