Joint Meeting with the Park and Recreation Commission
Points for discussion:
1. Gap between costs to provide park and trail facilities for new MUSA
construction and the Park Dedication Fee collections from that
construction
a. Current Park Dedication Fee rate will fund about 50% and 1 acre
for every 75 residents.
b. Trail construction costs increasing, as is usage
c. Chanhassen Park Dedication Fees near top of area
d. Land prices rising even quicker
2. District 112 partnership
a. Current partnerships strong and effective for both district and city
b. New High School provides opportunity to address some capital
needs for recreation
c. Commission interested in city exploring additional athletic fields,
swimming pool, and ice arena
3. Other desired long-term capital investments
a. Acquisition of parkland for additional athletic fields
i. Current fields reaching capacity
ii. Recommend accelerating CIP project to install lights to
increase utilization and capacity per field
111. Additional population growth along with issue listed in
point #1 will only further strain the limited capacity.
b. Completion of city park master plans
i. Move city parks forward towards their intended, and
desired, end state
11. Maintain reputation of a City that offers a quality park and
recreation program
c. Amateur Ball Field
1. Citizens would like to bring amateur baseball back to
Chanhassen
11. If possible to do, city could build ballpark and let high
school use it, while freeing up space at proposed high
school for additional athletic use
