Joint Meeting with the Environmental Commission
The Environmental Commission is looking forward to the opportunity to discuss
current projects and updates with the Mayor and City Council.
Summary of Projects
. Arbor Day event
Attendance was good. Activities included tree sale, kid's crafts, chainsaw
artist, story time at library, presentation by naturalist Jim Gilbert. Six
parks were cleaned by community groups. Over 150 bare root trees were
sold.
. 4th of July parade entry
Environmental Commission partnered with Lakewinds and Dry Cleaning
Station to produce float. Handed out 1,000 coupons for recycling center.
. Chanhassen Day at Arboretum
Attendance for the day was 1,005. All programs throughout the day were
well attended.
. Environmental Learning Series:
Attendance numbers not received yet from the Arboretum. Offered classes
on buckthorn abatement, tree care, organic gardening and lake shore
landscaping
. Recycling Coupon:
Promoting coupons in city newsletter, at recycling events and 4th of July
parade. Budget is on target: $5000 spent by end of July, totai budget is
$10000.
. Environmental Excellence Award program - deadline October 29
. Fall Recycling Day - Friday, October 20, lOam - 6pm
Future Projects
. Green building: Look into ways to promote the techniques and educate the
public on the benefits.
. Wind energy: Promote Windsource and other programs offered by Excel and
MVEC
. Organics Composting Project: Work jointly with Carver County on localized
organics collection project.
