A RESOLUTION REGARDING SCHOOL DISTRICT 112 BOND/OPERATING LEVY
FOR A SECOND HIGH SCHOOL IN CHANHASSEN
WHEREAS, Independent School District 112 is one of the fastest growing school districts
in the metropolitan area; and
WHEREAS, Independent School District 112' s current enrollment projections predict that
the high school will have 3,000 students by the year 2010 (300 over current capacity); and nearly
4,000 students by the year 2020 (1,300 above current capacity); and at the middle school level it is
projected that 2,800 students by the year 2020 (800 students over capacity); and
WHEREAS, the system of public schools is a cornerstone of quality in the community that
has a positive effect on civic pride, property values and our overall quality of life; and
WHEREAS, Independent School District 112, following an inclusive, comprehensive
planning process, has proposed a bond referendum in the amount of $92.9 million to build a new
high school in the City of Chanhassen, and a $3.0 million operating levy to open and operate the new
high school; and
WHEREAS, the City of Chanhassen has previously supported Independent School District
112' s acquisition of property within the city for purposes of building a secondary school in order to
accommodate the district's student population growth;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Chanhassen, Minnesota supports these referenda initiatives of Independent School District 112, and
urges residents in the district to vote in support of these referenda on November 7, 2006.
