SUBJ: Award of Bids for Curry Farms Park and Utica Terrace Drainage Improvements - Project No. SWMP 12-30 REQUEST Staff requests the City Council approve a construction contract in the amount of $130,997.00 to Kusske Construction Company for work to be performed on the above-referenced project. BACKGROUND On October 9,2006 Chanhassen City Council approved plans and specifications and authorized the advertisement of bids for Curry Farms Park and Utica Terrace Drainage Improvements. The two areas have been combined as a single project in an attempt to reduce construction costs. DISCUSSION Bids for the project were opened and read publicly on Monday, November 2, 2006 at 10:00 AM. Eight total bids were submitted. The three lowest bids are shown below along with the engineer's estimate. All bids have been verified by the consulting engineer. ........ ....... ... ,... Kusske Construction Company $130,785.00 Minger Construction $136,918.90 DMJ Corporation $151,567.25 The low bid by Kusske Construction Company is approximately 25% under the engineer's estimate. A copy of the improvement plans will be available for review during the meeting. Staff will include the engineering consultant and the contractor at the meeting to ensure that resident concerns are understood and addressed prior to construction. Utica Terrace Outlet Staff will provide residents information as to when the project will be started prior to work beginning. A temporary right-of-entry agreement will be obtained from one of the property owners for the construction of the channel. Construction will not begin until after the pre-construction meeting occurs. This meeting is scheduled for January 11, 2007. FUNDING The funding for this project will come from the City's Surface Water Management Plan fund (Fund 720). This project falls into the Surface Water Management Plan Implementation portion of the City's Capital Improvement Plan.
